Membership Classes

The NZIS has the following membership classes:

Member (MNZIS)

Members of the NZIS generally hold university qualifications and have undertaken sufficient working experience to be able to demonstrate competency in some field of surveying.

Fellow (FNZIS)

A Fellow is a NZIS Member who has provided eminent service to the profession and been elected by the membership of the NZIS to the class of Fellow, this is a sign of respect signifying their valuable contribution.

Associate (ANZIS)

Surveyors who have newly graduated (Professional Associate) or hold technical surveying qualification (Technical Associate) are eligible to become Associate members of the NZIS. This membership class is seen as a transition step to Member, which is achieved by aggregation of sufficient experience and capability to pass the Member class entrance criteria.

The NZIS offers free membership to students enrolled in acknowledged surveying courses in New Zealand.

On occasion the NZIS will confer honorary member status on a person who is not a member but who has rendered significant service to the Institute in carrying out its functions or who is eminent in a field of science or in pursuit’s kindred to those of its members.
